According to reports, Former chief minister and founder-president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Prafulla Kumar Mahanta htas opposed the cabinet sub-committee’s decision to include the names of non-Muslim ‘D’ (doubtful) voters or ‘suspect citizens’ in the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC).
“We are opposed to this. It cannot happen. We want the Assam Accord to be implemented in letter and spirit,” said Mahanta who is also the chief adviser of the Asom Andolan Sangrami Mancha, a forum of Assam agitation veterans.
